This Privacy Policy in a Nutshell

Unless you specifically contact us to tell us who you are or where you come from, we don’t know, attempt to know or want to know. For all sense and purposes you are, to this web site, an anonymous visitor.

Who’s in control?

When you surf the web you should be in control; in full control. Who knows what about me, when and where, are not simply questions that need to be answered; you should be the one deciding the answer.

This site collects two kinds of information: anonymous information and information you decide to provide.

Anonymous information

Anonymous information consists of the usage of this web site.

How many people visited? How many pages were read? Which pages are those? From which country did a visitor come? What type of browser did that visitor use? Did that visitor come to the site via a search engine? If so, which? And with which query?

All these types of information are collected in two ways:

  • In the log files of the web server that serves this web site
  • Via third party web site usage tracking services

Neither the log files nor the third party web site tracking services used link IP addresses to anything personally identifiable.

Information you provide

In only two instances will we ask you to provide personal information in the form of an email address:

  • When you use the contact form
  • When you sign up for the newsletter

Use of the contact form or signing up for the newsletter are completely optional.

The email address you provide when using the contact form is only used to reply to your message, if needed. These addresses are not collected nor shared, sold or rented to any third party.

When signing up for the newsletter, the email address you provide to FeedBlitz, the service that sends out the newsletter, is stored to be able to email you your newsletter. We nor FeedBlitz share, sell or rent your email address to any third party.

Other applicable privacy policies

When you use the this web site you indirectly use third party services. Each of those services have their own privacy policy. I encourage you to read those privacy policies to fully answer all your privacy questions.

Those advertisements have Amazon take into account other sites with Amazon ads you visited as well as your buying profile at Amazon. Amazon privacy policy. We don’t share information with Amazon and Amazon doesn’t share information with us.
  • Google AdSense: Adsense, a Google owned and operated company, is used to deliver text advertisements which pertain either to a specific article, page, category or subject. Here too, some ads may take into account other sites you’ve visited or searches you performed. Google’s use of so-called “cookies” from DoubleClick DART allows it to match advertisements with your interest based on previous web surfing. You can opt out of the use of the DART cookie. • Crazy Egg: at times we collect information on how one or more specific pages are used on the site. Crazy Egg provides that information. Crazy Egg privacy policy
  • FeedBurner: The main “feed” on this site is routed through FeedBurner, a Google owned and operated company. Google’s privacy policy and FeedBurner’s privacy statement apply.
  • Google Analytics (was: Urchin): another Google owned and operated service, this one tracking visitor statistics for our web site. Examples include but are not limited to: how many people come to the site, which search led them to the site, etc. Some non-personal information, like IP number, is used to generate accumulated stats such as “how many people came from country X”. Google’s privacy policy applies.

External links & privacy

On the web site we link to external sites where appropriate. Those sites are not under our editorial control and this privacy policy does not extend to those sites. The privacy policies of external sites may be in line with or conflict with this one. It is even possible that some external sites have no prvicay policy in place at all.
