On Jan. 6, Mars was discovered lying in a pool of his own urine and was shivering from the cold, according to a news release from the Baltimore County Department of Health. He was rescued on Orems Road by an area resident.

CALGARY — When the lab cross had come to the Calgary Humane Society, he was thin, timid and marred with gaping wounds where a ligature had been wrapped so tight it carved into his flesh.

It’s been almost a month since that shocking discovery, one that outraged animal welfare officials and prompted an outpouring of concern from Calgarians.

Now, bearing just a few scars as testimony to what he endured, Parker is ready for adoption.

Couple’s Newly Adopted Dog Runs Off Burglar

-A southwest Ohio couple that adopted a Saint Bernard to save the dog say their new pet saved their home from burglary a few hours later.

Rubert “Lee” Littler says he was taking Hercules outside Wednesday night when the 135-pound dog started growling.

Then Hercules charged after a man who was running out of the basement of the home.

The dog bit into the man’s ankle as the would-be burglar climbed a fence and got away.

Police said the home’s phone and cable lines had been cut.

Successors to Gage born into police force

Police are hoping six german shepherd puppies could become new Gages.

After police officers Bruce Lamb and Constable Mitchel Alatalo were shot and Lamb’s dog Gage killed, The Press launched an appeal to help fund new police dogs in July last year.

The appeal raised more than $17,319, with most of the money used to bring in frozen semen from two dogs in the Netherlands.

One of the police’s german shepherd brood bitches, Venus, gave birth to a litter of six male dogs and three females on October 30.

The father is a Dutch dog called Wolff van Tikerhook.

Hamlin was a dog nobody wanted. One of a litter of four unplanned and unexpected puppies, he was born in a backyard in West Virginia to a mother of no specific breed. We decided he’s a “mixed hound,” but that’s really anybody’s guess. His owner placed a free-to-good-home ad on Craigslist and, one by one, Hamlin’s siblings drove off to unknown fates. Maybe the homes really were good. But if you work at an animal shelter, as I do, you tend to be pretty cynical about Craigslist homes.

Dog waits patiently on rock after tumble down sheer 120ft cliff

He must have thought it was the chase of his life. And it very nearly did cost him his life when Ben the springer collie-cross tumbled 120 feet over a cliff – and survived.
The one-year-old dog was in hot pursuit of a deer when he plunged over a cliff at Durlston Bay, near Swanage in Dorset.
Incredibly, the plucky pooch was uninjured in the fall and waited faithfully on the rocks below for his owner to collect him.
