LONG ISLAND (WABC)

cores of lucky puppies and dogs are getting a new lease on life on Long Island.

Eyewitness News was there when a little schnauzer touched solid ground for the first time in its life Monday. It was one of hundreds of dogs doing the same after they were all rescued from puppy mills in Missouri and transported to New York.

“They can spend six or seven years or longer in a wire-bottomed cage,” said Theresa Strader, of the Mill Dog Rescue Network. “We have relationships with about 60 breeders who will turn them over to us to get them out.”
